One of the things that I’ve been collecting for years, are the annual books published by first the ACBL, and later the WBF, reporting on that year’s World Championship. These books are printed in limited numbers and have become quite rare for the older years. The goal is (obviously) to get the series complete. Over the past year, I have been able to find a few more, time to take stock and see where I am. For the full list, click here. The missing ones are:
- 1950: Note that it is not clear if a book has been published about the first Bermuda Bowl. The introduction to the later editions say that the ACBL has provided funds to publish a book since 1953. Also, the Encyclopaedia of Bridge does not mention a book about this specific event.
- 1951: Same story here.
- 1952: No Bermuda Bowl was played this year, hence there is no book.
- 1953: This book exists, but I don’t have a copy. Editors were Sonny Morse and Alfred Sheinwold.
- 1955: the ACBL book is in my collection (edited by Moyse and Sheinwold) but apparently there is a British version (edited by Reese and Franklin) as well. There appears to be a copy in the British Library, but with no way to access it for the public other than by travelling to London.
- 1958. I have a xerox’d copy of the book and recently tracked down an original. It is in the mail.
- 1962 and 1974: I have the book from the Bermuda Bowl but two events were played that year. The other one being the pairs olympiad. Was there ever a book published about that event as well?
So, that leaves me with 1 missing book (1953), and 5 years where it is unclear what exists (1950, 1951, 1955, 1962 and 1974). If you have any of these books and would like to get rid of them, you know where to find me.
